Frequently asked questions

Does the app work offline?

Yes — completely, on every platform. The app runs inside Apple's App Sandbox with network access set to false. iOS, iPadOS, and macOS will all block any connection attempt. You can turn off Wi-Fi and cellular and the app works the same.

Is my text sent to any server?

No. All detection happens on your device using Apple's NaturalLanguage framework and local text patterns. See the Privacy Policy for details.

What kinds of personal info does it find?

Names, emails, phone numbers, street addresses, postal codes, credit-card numbers, SSNs, Canadian SINs, tax IDs, API keys and tokens, IP addresses, URLs, dates of birth, and more — over 40 identifier types across 10 categories. You can toggle categories on or off in Settings.

Can I add my own words to always or never hide?

Yes. Open Settings → Custom Words to add words you always want hidden, or Settings → Never Mask to keep specific words from being detected.

What if the app hides something it shouldn't?

Tap or click the placeholder and choose "Unmask," or add the word to your Never Mask list. If you think it's a systemic issue, please email me with the text that triggered it.

What if the app misses something?

On Mac, select any text in the left pane and give it a placeholder manually, or add the word to your Always Hide list. On iPhone and iPad, add the word to your Always Masked list in Settings. If it's a pattern that should be caught by default, let me know.

How do I get my original text back?

Every action is reversible. On Mac, press ⌘Z (Edit → Undo) to bring text back piece by piece, or click any placeholder to unmask that one token. On iPhone and iPad, tap Clear to reset, or tap any placeholder to unmask it.

Does it support languages other than English?

English only, including U.S. and Canadian formats for things like phone numbers, postal codes, and tax IDs. Other languages aren't supported in this version.

Does the purchase renew? Is there a subscription?

No. It is a one-time purchase. You own the version you bought, and future updates on the 1.x line are free.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles all refunds directly. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, find the purchase, and request a refund. If Apple denies it and you feel the denial is unfair, email me and I'll do what I can.

Which Apple OS versions are supported?

iOS 17 and later, iPadOS 17 and later, and macOS 14 (Sonoma) and later. The app is a native SwiftUI build, shipped as a Universal Purchase — pay once and the same app installs on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Does one purchase cover iPhone, iPad, and Mac?

Yes. It's a Universal Purchase on the App Store. Buy it once on any platform and you can install it on the others with the same Apple ID — no second charge.
